Math At Home:
Patterning: Encourage your child to explore and create with materials at home. Use forks and spoons or coloured blocks to create a repeating pattern. Select a colour pattern and create a corresponding action with one or more sounds/actions (e.g. red, green, red, green = clap, stomp, clap, stomp).
Data Management and Probability: First, create a question with 2 or 3 choices (e.g. Which fruit do you like most...banana, kiwi, or apple?). Next, gather information by surveying your family members (remember to use a tally chart to record your results). Then, organize your data by creating a pictograph, bar graph, or concrete graph (e.g. using blocks, cars, Lego, dolls...). Finally, analyze your data (e.g. What was the most popular/least popular? How many more/less in one column than the other?), and explain your thinking.
