April News

Welcome to April.  The Character Trait for this month is RESPONSIBILITY.

LITERACY ACTIVITIES:

• Exploring Poetry
• Reading: using picture clues while reading, looking at the first and last letters of a word, recognizing frequently used words (sight words), asking...Does it make sense? Does it sound right? Does it look right?
• Writing: stretching out words and writing the sounds that we hear, using the word wall and classroom resources while writing.  Continuing to use the 6 star sentence: 1. Makes sense, 2. Detail, 3. Include punctuation, 4. Use spaces, and 5. Spelling (write the sounds you hear to represent the word).

MATH ACTIVITIES:

• Canadian Coins: practice naming coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter, loonie & toonie), talk about the value of each coin (using real money), and role play using money to buy toys etc.
• Time: Sequencing events and exposure to measuring time (clock, calendar...).
• Number Sense: Numbers larger than 10.

HEALTH ACTIVITIES:

• Healthy teeth
• Proper Hygiene
• Healthy Eating

• April 12, 19 & 26 - Early Years Workshop: Triple P Parenting 6-9 pm in our library.  Please register with the Early Years.
• April 20th - Spirit Assembly - 2:45pm (wear your den colour to earn points).
• April 26th - 60's Spirit Day (dress in your favourite 60's gear).
• April 27th - Fit to Dance

It was great to see our Kindergarten students and parents at the read-a-thon.  Thank you for your support.

• Animal Spirit Day - Friday, February 10th.
• Valentine's Day - Wear pink, red and white.
• Dental Screening - February 15th and 16th.
• Reports - Will be sent home Friday, February 17th.
• Family Day Holiday - No School - Monday, February 20th.
• Spirit Assembly (wear your den colour) - Friday, February 24th.

Welcome to Kindergarten 2011

Hello Everyone!
We would like to welcome you to Kindergarten and look forward to working with you this year. 

Our Kindergarten team consists of:
Teachers - Mrs. Moxam, Mrs. Coombes, Mrs. Crawford (teacher/librarian), Mrs. Shackell & Mrs. Aspin (planning time - math).
Early Childhood Educators - Mrs. Davies & Mrs. Entwistle.
Educational Assistant - Mrs. Wyant.

Important Dates:

• Wolf Pack Spirit Assembly: Friday, September 16th at 2:45.  Students wear their den colour and earn points for their den.
• Picture Day: Wednesday, September 21st.
• QSP Magazine Fundraising Assembly: Thursday, September 22nd at 1:45. 
• Welcome Back Night: Thursday, September 22nd - 5:00 to 7:00.
• PA day: Friday, September 23rd - no school for students.
• Terry Fox Run: September 26th at 1:45.  Remember your 'Toonie for Terry".
• Pizza Days: Mondays and Thursdays - $2.25/slice.
• Milk: sold daily during second nutrition break - $1.00
